I had eye surgery at New Jersey surgery center in March 2026. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with a medical facility. While the surgeon was excellent, the billing and customer service were extremely poor. Two days before my surgery, I received a text message requiring full upfront payment (about $3,400) with no breakdown or explanation. Then, the day before surgery, I received multiple calls and messages requesting a total of $4,300 to be paid immediately. I was very busy at work and had to deal with repeated interruptions, which caused unnecessary stress right before an important procedure. Because my surgery was scheduled for Monday morning, I felt pressured to pay the full amount upfront after being told the procedure might not proceed otherwise. When I paid over the phone, I clearly instructed them to charge $2,000 to one card and the remaining balance to another. However, without informing me, they attempted to charge the full amount to the first card, which was declined due to limits. They then charged the entire amount to the second card without my consent, creating complications for reimbursement from my benefits account. On the morning of the surgery, a front desk staff attempted to charge my card again for another $4,300 without asking, only realizing afterward that I had already paid. I was told this was due to their policy because some patients do not pay their bills. This does not excuse the lack of professionalism and care. After the surgery, my insurance processed the claim and paid the center, and it turned out I had been overcharged by nearly half of the total amount. Getting a refund required additional time and effort on my part. Despite being charged $3,400 as a facility fee, I was not even informed of the standard preoperative NPO (nothing by mouth) instructions. As a healthcare worker, I followed this precaution on my own. Additionally, I was told I would receive a postoperative follow-up call, but no one contacted me the next day. On the day of surgery—one of the coldest days (around 20°F)—the facility did not have adequate heating. I waited for over two hours in a very cold room and was shivering the entire time. This was extremely uncomfortable and unacceptable for patients. Overall, the billing practices and customer service were disorganized, stressful, and unprofessional. I would strongly caution others to carefully review charges and communications when dealing with this facility.
I’m still giving them 5 stars in spite on delay in taking me in for surgery as it was unplanned. The previous doctor took his time to get the previously scheduled surgery to get it just right. That’s how I’d like them to take care of me were the situations reversed. To avoid that kind of situation I’d advise getting the earliest time slot. Everyone was professional and did a great job. What else can one ask for.
Everyone was kind and very professional which made y surgery a breeze.

The Surgery Center is conveniently located with ample parking. The admission process was smooth. Nurses Stephanie, Ariana and Kelly were caring and attentive. Dr. Conte did an amazing arthroscopic procedure on my knee. I was able to put weight on it upon leaving. I was bandaged for 3 days, with rest, elevation and icing. After that I have been steadily recovering with PT 2x per week.
